Those living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and its debilitating effects have the added insult of being highly susceptible to repeated falls and their associated injuries including head injuries and fractures, according to a recent study from the United Kingdom.
Due to swollen, damaged joints, fatigue and side effects of medications to treat RA, these falls happen more frequently and much less randomly than for those who do not have RA.
The chances of repeated falls after the first fall increase significantly, especially for men. This is why telling your healthcare professional about previous falls is so important.
Although these findings may not be surprising (especially if youโre familiar with arthritis), theyโre still important because they highlight the need to be extra cautious when suffering from this condition.
Even more importantly, this study shows that the solution traditional medical system has for arthritis โ that is medications โ can actually make the problem worse. Itโs therefore important to seek all natural solutions that do not cause side effects like medications do.
